Never Forget the Individual
Boy, Don Swenson’s missive, “Which comes First – the Individual or the State?”, hit me like a ton of bricks. If you have not seen it let me know and I will get it to you. Those of you who have, what do you think?

I agree with your comments on Sep 30 concerning the individual being superior to the State. That is what America is about and that is what Washington has been destroying, starting with the transfer of wealth by the Fed, Wall Street, Congress and Treasury. The regulators are also part of the problem. I am also discouraged that the Federal Courts have lost it completely, particularly when they permit unlimited campaign contribultions from corporations…kiss of death for the constitution. It may be too late in the scheme of things, so it may be necessary to start over and start over soon.
It is well known that in the multiple choice answer on any legal exams that the 10th amendment is never graded as a correct answer, even when it sould be. That is why our founding fathers also gave us the right to bear arms SPECIFICALLY AGAINST A DESPOTIC government.
What our founding fathers did not envisage however was the effectiveness of Gandhi and the use of non-violent protest.
At most the government is capable of arresting and jailing about 100,000 extra citizens; thus if martial law is declared when the government tries to ram through further measures against the wishes of the majority, if the election box fails, I am quite prepared to take non-violent action against emperor Obama and his cohorts.
For me the action starts with health insurance which I have never and will never buy. If fined, I will not pay the fine.
For the record, I have always paid my own medical expenses ontime and in full; always seeking the best medical treatment. I am not asking the state for anything.
I am expecting the real crunch to come when the state tells me “that for my own good” they will invest my 401K for me. (You seriously think I will permit that after the fraud of social security!)
I have stated this before and am seldom believed, but google the facts…..
When first levied the tax on Tea in 1770 was 10%.
(The reason being that Dutch cheap prices were undermining british trade.) Although slow to react to protests over a 10% import tax, the british government actually halved the tax to sixpence in the pound or 5% in 1775. By then, however, momentum had built for independence and the rest is history.
What amazes me is the apparent apathy of the american people to ever increasing taxation. I guess it is partly explained by the cunning political use of hand-outs, and credits, such that 45% of the population pays no income tax. It is hard to get a majority to invoke a revolutionary change when clearly 45% have been paid-off.
This, of course, is the classical cause of the breakdown of all democracies, when the majority extract largesse from a richer minority. The consequence is revolution every 200 years or so as described by Tyler back prior to 1776. Our founding fathers were so careful not to have a democacy but rather a representative republic with other safeguards such as the electoral colege. Alas these measures only appear to have added fifty years to the period between revolutions.
I hope and pray that it is not too late. More to come in today’s Daily Editorial which will be up early afternoon.

The Glenn Beck Show is also focusing on this issue: the individual must not be subserviant to the state if we want freedom to disagree. Once the State imposes a system upon the individual…the individual has no chance to overcome this system (or the politically correct viewpoint) as the State has the power of the ‘gun’ and force. We all live our lives in the now moment so we must fight (non-violently) to make sure the State does not take control of our economy and that our elected leaders understand this concept of the ‘individual’. Our founding Fathers recognized the concept of being a servant. I don’t think our current leaders understand or recognize the concept of being a ‘servant’. Don
